History
The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers was founded in 1969 by the few qualified General Practice Chartered Surveyors who were trained mainly in the United Kingdom. The Institution was granted government recognition by the enactment of the Estate Survey
Six years later, it was accorded official government recognition by the promulgation of the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Act, popularly referred as Decree 24 of 1975. By this legislation, the Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria (ESVARBON) came into being as the regulatory body for the profession. The institution was incorporated on June 1, 1970 under the: Land (Perpetual Succession) Act Cap. 98.
The Institution is affiliation to the Real Estate Federation (FIABCI) which it joined in June 1972 and the Commonwealth Association of Surveying and Land Economy (CASLE) which it joined as a foundation member in April 1969. The institution is also a member of the International Valuation Standards committee (IVSC) which it joined in 2001
